Objective

I am seeking a part-time (possibily full-time) position that will challenge my sale, management, interpersonal, and/or computer skills.

Computer Knowledge

I am a self-taught webmaster. I hand code HTML, CSS, PHP, Perl, MySql, Javascript and do a little work in Flash.

I founded South River Design & Hosting while still working for International Beauty Systems after developing thier web page. I realized that there was a market for economical web sites for small to medium sized businesses developed by someone with a sales and marketing background.

I am now semi-retired, but continue to operate South River Design as a home based business . I have built sites for a number of local business (please contact me for urls).

My areas of specialty are adapting and modifying server side scripting, shopping carts , blogs, and SEO.

Retail and Food & Beverage Management

In every instance in which I have managed a retail food and beverage outlet profits have increased dramatically.

Outside Sales

I have served as a rep for three regional distributors. In each case my assigned territory has shown sales gains.

Grant Writing

I have authored and had funded a number of grant actions.

Education

Indiana University, Sociology, 1974
After teaching for a year and serving in the public sector for some time I returned to school. While attending I.U. I supported myself as a bartender.

University of Notre Dame, September 1960 to June 1962
I began my college career as a physics major. I found out the hard way that one does not work and pursue this degree at the same time. At the end of the second year I had neither the grades nor the funds to continue.

Employment

Account Rep, International Beauty Systems
Schaumburg, Ill.
September 1999 to Present

I retired several years ago from a position representing a number of hair care products for a major distributor to the beauty professionals in a six county area in Northern Indiana.

I still maintain their web site and on-line catalog.

Teacher (7 th Grade), Saint Joseph's Grade School
August 1967 to June 1968

One of the longest years of my life.

Field Rep O.J.T. Program, Urban League of St. Joseph County
August 1968 to September 1969

This project was funded by a U.S. Dept. of Labor Grant. It's purpose was to locate and encourage local employers to hire and train minority job seekers.

Deputy State Director: Manpower Planning, State of Indiana Governor's Office
September 1969 to June 1970

My position with the Governor's Office was to cause public and private sector employment programs to plan and work together.

Program Consultant, Head Start
November 1970 to August 1971

This was a temporary position. My job was to write grant modifications to the current grant actions and develop the grant action for the coming year.

Deputy Director, Action Inc. (Community Action Agency)
September 1971 to October 1972

Once again, I was the grant writer for this agency and also assisted in the day to day administration.

Night Bartender, Elk's Club
January 1972 to May 1974

This was an evening job that I took so that I could complete my degree.

Bar Manager, Quality Inn
June 1974 to August 1975

By the time I completed my degree program, I my only contact with the agency world was as a volunteer member of the State Commission for Ageing. However, I had many contacts in the food and beverage business.

Outside Sales, Allen Products
September 1975 to August 1977

I began this position as a marketing rep for St. Joseph County, I then transferred to Fort Wayne to take over our fine wine consultant position.

Food and Beverage Director, Ramada Inn
September 1977 to June 1978

When Allen Products closed as a result of the owner's death, I joined Ramada Corp. as Food and Beverage Director for the Ramada Fort Wayne. While I was in place I doubled our F & B revenue. My mother's illness caused me to accept a similar position in South Bend in less than a year with the Americana Hotel Corp.

Food and Beverage Director, Americana Hotel
July 1978 to September 1980

I was with Americana for several years. During that time we erased a considerable annual deficit for the department and returned it to profitability. A change in management caused me to consider several other positions available within the company, but I was engaged to a local girl and chose to resign instead.

Bartender, W.M.R.D.'s
February 1980 to January 1982

I started as a bartender, biding time until my wife at the time finished nursing school. I then became General Manager and soon had the "hottest" nightclub in the city. As profits soared the owner had second thoughts about a percentage of the profits that was to be part of my compensation. We parted on harsh terms.

Real Estate Sales, E.R.A. Homes
February 1992 to May 1993

I passed the state tests for a real estate sales license while at W.M.R.D's and joined the local E.R.A. brokerage. I was with them for a year, during which time I passed the state real estate broker's exam.

Real Estate Broker, Schelle and Associates
July 1993 to September 1995

I joined Schelle and Associates as an Associate Broker and was with them on a full time and then a part time basis till the agency closed.

Store Manager, Belmont Beverage
August 1995 to August 1998

I managed a liquor store Belmont, Northern Indiana's largest liquor retailer while I was married. The steady paycheck and regular hours seemed to be a good idea at the time.

Account Rep, La Touraine Coffee Co.
August 1998 to September 1999

I covered Northern Indiana and some of Southern Michigan providing sales and service support for Clark Food service coffee customers.
